Prime Minister Barzani meets Sri Lankan Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Iraq Major General (Rtd) Niranjan Asoka Ranasinghe, who visited the Kurdistan Region to oversee the opening of his country’s Honorary Consulate in Erbil.

In the meeting attended by the newly appointed Sri Lankan Honorary Consul Mr Ahmed Jalaladdin, Ambassador Ranasinghe conveyed the greetings of Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Prime Minister Barzani and appreciated the Kurdistan Regional Government’s welcoming reception and support for Mr. Jalaladdin. He hoped that in the future their representation will be upgraded to a full Consulate General in order to develop constructive relations with the Kurdistan Region in all fields of cooperation.

Prime Minister Barzani hailed Sri Lanka’s step to establish a representation in the Kurdistan Region and congratulated Mr. Ahmed Jalaladdin on his appointment as Sri Lanka’s Honorary Consul in the Kurdistan Region. He also hoped that relations would develop in all fields and assured Ambassador Ranasinghe and Honorary Consul Mr. Jalaladdin that the KRG will extend all support and assistance needed to make Mr. Jalaladdin’s mission successful.
