Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Russian Ambassador to Iraq Maksim Maksimov and his accompanying delegation, including Russian Consul General to the Kurdistan Region Victor Simakov, and a number of Russian officials.

Ambassador Maksimov highlighted the progress made to improve the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, stressing the importance of continued dialogue.

They discussed the formation of the new Iraqi government, the active participation of the Kurdistan parties in the new Iraqi government, and the success of the recent Kurdistan parliamentary election process.

Prime Minister Barzani briefed the Russian delegation on the progress of talks with Baghdad on resolving differences. He expressed Kurdistan Region’s full support to the new Iraqi Prime Minister, Mr. Adel Abdul Mahdi.

They highly valued bilateral relations, especially in the field of energy and stressed that the relations are expected to further develop to include agriculture, industry and trade sectors.
