Prime Minister Barzani meets British Ambassador

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received British Ambassador to Iraq Jon Wilks and his accompanying delegation.

Ambassador Wilks expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached between the Kurdistan Region and Iraqi federal government on resumption of international flights to and from Erbil and suleimaniya airports and part payment of salaries, which was the result of talks between Prime Minister Barzani and Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi. He also offered his government’s support for the continuation of the talks between the two sides in order to resolve all outstanding issues.

Ambassador Wilks reaffirmed British support for a strong Kurdistan Regional Government and to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and UK, especially in reconstruction and diplomacy.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked Britain for its support and considered Iraqi government’s decision to enable resumption of international flights and salary payment as a positive step towards further dialogue in resolving other issues. He also stressed the KRG’s desire to strengthen relations with Britain.

Prime Minister Barzani informed the delegation about the security situation in the Region, saying that the international coalition along with Erbil and Baghdad should work together to prevent reemergence of terrorism. In this regard, he affirmed the KRG’s readiness to provide every assistance to Baghdad.

Other topics pertaining to the political situation and the latest developments in the greater region were also discussed.
