Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received British Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Jon Wilks, who delivered a letter from Her Majesty's Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Mr. Boris Johnson.
In the letter, Foreign Secretary Johnson reaffirmed that there is serious effort exerted to begin serious dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution. He also expressed the United Kingdom’s support for the democratic process in the Kurdistan Region.
In the meeting also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Ambassador Wilks shared his understanding of recent meetings in Baghdad and his country’s efforts to support resolution of outstanding issues with Erbil.
Prime Minister Barzani thanked Foreign Secretary Johnson for his letter and reaffirmed the KRG’s stance of favouring dialogue to settle disputes with Baghdad. He also called upon KRG’s friends in the international community to help support and facilitate negotiations with the federal government.
