Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Mr. Ján Kubiš and the new Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for  Iraq Ms. Alice Walpole.

Mr. Kubiš expressed his satisfaction with negotiations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government, particularly the recent meeting in Baghdad between Prime Minister Barzani and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi.

He expressed his readiness to provide all support and cooperation for more technical meetings and to assist in developing solutions to pressing issues, particularly with regard to the payment of salaries of KRG civil servants and the resumption of international flights at the Region’s airports.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked Mr. Kubiš for his support and noted that although many steps remain to resolve outstanding issues, the talks mark a positive start towards serious dialogue.

Political developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as in the wider region, were also discussed.
