Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (Cabinet.gov.krd) - The Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a statement today, following the passing of U.S. Senator John McCain.

Below is the text of Prime Minister Barzani’s message:

I was deeply saddened by the passing of the veteran American politician and a loyal friend of the people of Kurdistan, Senator John McCain.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. May God grant the McCain family and his friends comfort and peace during this difficult time.

The passing of John McCain is a tremendous loss for the people of Kurdistan. He was a true friend and a staunch advocate of the rights of the Kurdistan people. He did his best, at every opportunity, to defend and protect the basic rights of the people of Kurdistan.

Our nation will never forget the support of Senator McCain, and they will always honor and cherish his memory.
