Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Muhammad Al Halbusi, Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives and his accompanying delegation.

They discussed the current political and security situation in Iraq, the efforts to complete the formation of the new Iraqi government, and the obstacles before the process. Both sides stressed the importance of filling the remaining ministerial posts and start the course of a constructive political process in Iraq.

They also discussed the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, efforts to resolve them within the framework of the federal Constitution and highlighted the plight of the displaced persons who fled terrorism and took refuge in the Kurdistan Region.

They stressed the need for further assistance to the IDPs by the Iraqi government, their return to their places of origin and reconstruction of liberated areas from ISIS.

Strengthening cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad, the situation in the wider region in general and a number of issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
