Minister Safeen Dizayee meets with USCIRF V-Chair and Commissioner, Nadine Menza

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Minister Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) met on Thursday with Ms. Nadine Menza, the Vice Chairman of the U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and her accompanying delegation.

 

At the meeting, Minister Dizayee and Ms. Menza exchanged views on conditions of different ethnic and religious communities in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider region, said that the Kurdistan Region is a successful example in the wider region of peaceful coexistence, good security, stability and support for religious freedom, and the KRG, is firmly committed to promoting these principles.

 

Both sides underlined the importance of implementing the agreement on normalising Sinjar and the need for more support to all communities in the region.

 

Ms. Menza gave a brief overview on the USCIRF’s works and activities in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. She also commended the KRG for preserving and protecting its multi-ethnic and multi-religious identity, in addition to welcoming a large number of refugees and IDPs.

 

Minister Dizayee and Ms. Menza were optimistic to enhance future coordination on many important issues.
