Water-meter installation has increased to 79%


Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - The rate of drinking water meter installation has increased from 45% to 79% since the inauguration of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ninth Cabinet, and it is expected to increase further in one year.

“Compared to 2018 and 2019, installing water meters has increased a lot. Forty-five percent of water subscribers had meters installed to them, but now the rate has increased to 79% and we expect it to increase further in a year,” General Director of the Water and Sewage Directorate, Ari Ahmed said.


Regarding the number of subscribers to the water meter, Ahmed said that their number is constantly increasing as “we had around 760,000 water subscribers between 2018-109, but the number has reached one million and 65 thousand now.”

Users of the water meter in the Kurdistan Region are constantly increasing and the KRG wants to preserve as many water resources as possible through scientific management for the benefit of citizens.
