Deputy Prime Minister meets with Finance Officials to discuss Economy Diversification

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Tuesday met with the customs offices directors and the heads of the trade banks to discuss diversifying sources of income.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that economic diversity and strengthening the private sector are among the government’s top priorities, and that reform is needed to achieve these goals.

He told the customs offices directors to work on enhancing trade flow and activity, and reiterated that they have the government’s full support in the matter.

The Deputy PM also emphasized the importance of digitizing the border crossing procedure to reduce the bureaucracy in the process and ensure transparency.

The general director of the Kurdistan Region’s customs offices explained the difficulties they faced to those in attendance, which included the minister of finance and the head of the diwan of the council of ministers.

He gave a report on their current plans and income data for the previous period, and provided suggestions on how they can resolve outstanding issues.
