Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets Canadian Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received Canada’s newly appointed ambassador to Iraq, Ulric Shannon.

Prime Minister Barzani and the Canadian ambassador discussed recent developments in Iraq and the Middle East and their impact on the Kurdistan Region. Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the new Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to establishing the region as a centre of stability and security.

Prime Minister Barzani asserted that the KRG will continue to reinforce trusted relationships with its friends in the West, including through stronger bilateral ties with Canada.

Welcoming Canada’s existing support of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, Prime Minister Barzani encouraged Ambassador Shannon to further the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two countries, notably around federalism.

Prime Minister Barzani concluded the meeting by congratulating Ambassador Shannon on his new role in Iraq and wished him success.
