A message from PM Masrour Barzani on anniversary of Yazidi genocide

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday marked the 7th year since the genocidal attacks on the Yazidi people with a message honoring the victims of the massacre.

Full statement from the Prime Minister:

“Today is the 7th anniversary of the barbaric attack of ISIS terrorists on our Yazidi brothers and sisters in Shingal and surrounding areas. Thousands of people from that region were massacred, went missing, or were displaced.

“The Yazidi genocide is a brutal crime, that will always remain in our and the world’s conscience, and we must always honor the victims of that massacre with respect. We must also honor the sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces in liberating Shingal, led by President Masoud Barzani.

“On this tragic day, we reiterate that KRG will continue its attempts for the honorable return of our Yazidi brothers and sisters to their homes, and will work with the federal government and the international community to rebuild Shingal and other areas destroyed by the terrorists.

“We also emphasize the importance of implementing the Shingal agreement, and normalizing the situation in the area so that people of that area can honorably return to their homes. At the same time, we will increase our efforts to put ISIS criminals and their collaborators on trial and account for all missing individuals.

“We pay our respects to the martyrs and victims of the Yazidi genocide, and all martyrs of Kurdistan.”
