Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson expressed his and his government’s support for the rights of the people of Iraqi Kurdistan within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution.

He hailed Kurdistan Regional Government’s calls for dialogue between Baghdad and Erbil, towards resolving all outstanding issues and halt military confrontation.

In a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, he also praised the role of President Masoud Barzani in the fight against ISIS, for serving the people of Kurdistan and in rebuilding the new Iraq.

Mr. Johnson said he also urged Iraq Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi to dialog with the Kurdistan Regional Government on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution in a manner that may expeditiously resolve issues between Erbil and Baghdad.

Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani thanked the United Kingdom for all the support it has been offering to the Kurdistan Region and appreciated its government’s stance in supporting efforts toward peace between Erbil and Baghdad.

He stressed that the KRG is against confrontation with Baghdad and has always been ready to resolve all issues peacefully and in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution. He reiterated that violence cannot resolve problems and it is against the interests of all parties.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Iraq, the war against ISIS, and reconstruction efforts in liberated areas.
