Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani discusses KRG jobs and economic growth plan at TECHFEST event

Arbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today, at the TECHFEST event for Innovation and Technology in Sulaymaniyah, outlined the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts to broaden access to digitalized services and create nearly 50,000 job opportunities.

During his speech at the TECHFEST Digital Competition event, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government is focused on creating a stronger bridge between the government, academic institutions, and the private sector. Strengthening cooperation between these three sectors, he added, will help move the Kurdistan Region forward into a new era of prosperity and build a strong foundation for the economy to grow.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the Kurdistan Regional Government remains committed to increasing prospects for the nation’s youth, creating more opportunities for graduates while helping them prepare to enter the job market. This also includes simplifying administrative and bureaucratic procedures for the private sector to support job creators and facilitate investments.

Over the past two years, the Kurdistan Regional Government issued investment permits for 860 different projects across the Kurdistan Region, which is estimated to create 48,000 job opportunities. Deputy Prime Minister Talabani noted that the government’s job creation plan also comes with measures to protect the rights of private sector employees and provide them with the same benefits as public sector employees, such as pensions and social security.

The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the government’s digitalization efforts and stated the Kurdistan Regional Government relies on the bright young minds and hard-working business of the Kurdistan Region to assist with the process to ensure a seamless transition to a modernized system that will benefit everyone. He explained that once the first phase of the digitalization process is complete, citizens can expect to have access to roughly 100 services online.
