Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with UN SRSG

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) - Today in Erbil, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, UN Special Representative to the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI.

They discussed the situation in Iraq and the wider region, emphasizing the importance of resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.

They both agreed on the need to safeguard the constitutional rights of the Kurdistani people and the Kurdistan Region’s federal status. The recent passage of the federal budget law by the Council of Representatives was highlighted as a positive step toward resolving disputes.

The UN Special Representative acknowledged Prime Minister Barzani’s role in maintaining security and stability in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the broader region.

Prime Minister Barzani commended the constructive and balanced role of the UN mission, particularly its efforts to foster dialogue among Iraq’s political actors and contribution to long-term stability.
