KRG Continues Engagement with Diplomatic Missions on Human Rights Agenda

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Coordinator for International Advocacy, Dindar Zebari, met separately this week with representatives from the European Union and the Republic of South Korea to discuss ongoing cooperation on human rights, institutional development, and regional stability.
On 13 April, Zebari met with Radu Butum, the Head of the EU Liaison Office in the Kurdistan Region. Their discussion centred on the implementation of the KRG’s Human Rights Plan (2021–2025), notably in terms of awareness-raising and skills development. Zebari also addressed the KRG’s efforts to foster religious freedom, protect the rights of diverse communities, and improve women's participation in public life.
The following day, April 14, Zebari met with Seungcheol Lim, Consul General of South Korea. The meeting touched on various topics, including humanitarian cooperation and institutional capacity-building. Zebari also emphasised the KRG’s participation in the UN’s Universal Periodic Review process, highlighting the necessity of following up on recommendations addressed to both the KRG and the federal government.
Topics discussed with both delegations included gender equality, freedom of expression, religious and ethnic minority rights, and the importance of sustaining regional security and stability. Both EU and South Korean representatives reaffirmed their continued support for the KRG’s efforts, noting the value of sustained coordination to promote democratic governance and development.
