KRG calls for an end to Turkey’s deforestation of the Kurdistan Region
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – The Kurdistan Regional Government issued the following statement regarding recent reports concerning Turkey’s deforestation activities in the Kurdistan Region.
“The Kurdistan Regional Government is concerned and strongly rejects the Turkish Government’s deforestation of the Kurdistan Region’s precious lands, and it has officially requested Turkey to cease its harmful and destructive activities.”
“In addition, the Kurdistan Regional Government reiterates that the Turkish army’s presence in the Kurdistan Region is a direct consequence of Kurdistan Workers Party’s (PKK) militants hiding in the region, especially in the border areas, which has led to ongoing violence affecting the lives of innocent civilians. We once more demand that both sides respect the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and put a stop to hostilities that are destroying the homes and lives of the people of the Kurdistan Region.”
