Driving license digitization a key step towards E-Government
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - The process of digitizing driving licenses is a system that is used internationally, and has now also been introduced in the Kurdistan Region, which will reduce the process of issuing a driving license to only 30-35 minutes.
In the new process, there will be no need for the use of paper, and this will serve as a starting point for E-Government.
In terms of the process, unlike previously, eye tests have been moved into the same building and the Ministry of Health has appointed medical staff to oversee the process. The second requirement for the process is that the applicant’s name on the driving license must match the name on their passport.
According to the spokesperson for the Erbil traffic police, the process now takes 30 to 35 minutes in total, and it is expected to take even less as employees familiarize themselves with the new system.
Previously, a taxi driver would need to have a general type license but, under the new system, they will have a specific driving license that will be issued exclusively to the drivers of taxis in the Kurdistan Region, and only holders of this type of license will be allowed to drive a taxi.
The new system has already received positive feedback, as many people believe it has reduced previous difficulties and streamlined the process.
