Water collected by four new dams in Kurdistan

Remarkable steps have been taken to construct new dams as one of the Kurdistan Region’s strategic objectives.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources said: “This year, we collected rainwater in the four new dams, as part of the government’s strategic steps to develop water resources.”

The Ministry added that “the construction of these dams will increase water supplies and enhance the Kurdistan Region’s agricultural sector.”

The four newly constructed dams are located in Suleimani, Duhok, Garmian and Erbil. Overall, they have a capacity of 28.6 million cubic meters of water.

The individual dams are as follows:

- Dewana Dam in Suleimani with a capacity of 19 million cubic meters

- Khans Dam in Duhok with a capacity of 6.7 million cubic meters

- Tourajar Dam in Garmian with a capacity of 1.7 million cubic meters

- Chamrga Dam in Erbil with a capacity of 1.2 million cubic meters

The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources will continue its efforts to protect water security.
