U.S. Consulate Praises Progress Made on Press Freedom in the Kurdistan Region

The United States Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region has commended the notable decrease in press freedom violations within the Kurdistan Region. In a statement following visits to several media establishments, the Consulate acknowledged the positive strides made towards ensuring a safer environment for journalism. This acknowledgment underscores U.S. commitment to supporting a landscape where journalists can operate freely, without the threat of intimidation, harassment, or bias linked to political affiliations.

The efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government's ninth cabinet, guided by international principles of press freedom, have been instrumental in enhancing media liberty. These efforts aim to safeguard journalists' well-being, foster transparency, and champion public interest, thereby bolstering freedom and openness.
