A Statement From the Kurdistan Region Security Council

At 23:30 hours on January 15, 2024, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched multiple ballistic missiles into civilian-populated areas of Erbil city. Preliminary reports sadly confirm the death of four civilians and injuries to six others, who are currently in critical condition.

The IRGC asserts that the strikes were aimed at several anti-Iranian bases. We categorically reject this unfounded pretext. Regrettably, the IRGC frequently employs baseless pretexts for assaulting Erbil, a region that consistently maintains stability and poses no threat.

This attack flagrantly violates the sovereignty of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. It is imperative that the Federal Iraqi Government and the international community do not overlook this egregious act.
