KRG Tasks Ministries to Support and Facilitate Upcoming Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is asking all KRG ministries and institutions to provide logistical assistance and cooperate with the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections scheduled for 20 October 2024.

In a decree dated 3 September 2024 and signed by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the Council conveys that following a decision made during the Council of Minister’s session on 21 August 2024, and discussions with the IHEC, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, and the KRG, the regional ministries and institutions are required to provide logistical support to the IHEC to guarantee a successful organisation of the electoral process. The decree also reaffirms the Council's commitment to ensuring the process is conducted fairly and peacefully.

In addition, the Ministry of Education has been tasked to prepare schools for use as polling centres a week before the process.

The parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region are scheduled to take place on 20 October 2024.
