Kurdistan Nears Goal of 24-Hour Electricity with 1,840 MW Expansion

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has made significant strides towards providing 24-hour electricity through the Runaki (Light) Project.
Over 30% of the population now has round-the-clock power, and 500,000 new customers have been connected to the grid.
Strategic projects have added 1,840 MW of capacity, bringing the Kurdistan Region’s total electricity infrastructure to approximately 8,200 MW.
More than 3,500 distribution projects have been completed, enabling the shutdown of 2,100 private diesel generators.
By the end of 2026, the Kurdistan Region is expected to achieve full 24-hour electricity coverage, meeting citizens’ energy needs.
