172 Road Projects Completed as KRG Strengthens Transport Infrastructure in 2025
During 2025, substantial progress was achieved in the development of the road network across the Kurdistan Region, with a significant number of projects completed and several major strategic routes continuing to advance.
As part of its sustained commitment to strengthening economic infrastructure and enhancing public services, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) completed 172 road projects during the year, with a total investment of IQD 92 billion and 463 million.
The completed projects included the construction of new roads as well as the rehabilitation and asphalting of existing routes. Implementation extended across all governorates and self-administration districts of the Kurdistan Region. Funding was secured through three primary sources: the investment budget, the regular budget, and revenues generated from weighing stations.
The distribution of completed projects by governorate and self-administration district is as follows:
* Slemani: 61 projects
* Erbil: 41 projects
* Duhok: 21 projects
* Soran: 14 projects
* Garmian: 12 projects
* Raparin: 11 projects
* Halabja: 7 projects
* Zakho: 5 projects
In addition to these completed initiatives, several key strategic road projects are currently under intensive development and scheduled for completion in 2026. These projects are expected to significantly enhance mobility and improve connectivity for citizens across different parts of the Kurdistan Region.
The Kurdistan Regional Government remains firmly committed to expanding and modernising road infrastructure as part of its broader efforts to protect, connect, and serve the people of the Kurdistan Region.
