Reconstruction of Shaqlawa-Harir Road Begins at a Cost of IQD 90 Billion

As part of the Ninth Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) efforts to enhance the transportation sector, construction has commenced on the Shaqlawa-Harir road, with a budget of IQD 90 billion.

According to the project director, the development covers a ten kilometre stretch and will include two overpasses. The first overpass will be located in the Shaqlawa Industrial Zone to facilitate better access for workers, while the second will be positioned in front of the Mirawa tunnel to improve connectivity for surrounding villages.

The project also includes the Mawran and Mirawa tunnels, and is expected to be completed within two years, utilising local labour for construction. This strategic road will strengthen regional connectivity by linking the Kurdistan Region to Iran on one side and connecting Soran District to Erbil Governorate on the other. Once completed, it is expected to ease traffic congestion in Shaqlawa town.

The KRG Ministry of Construction and Housing, in collaboration with the Erbil Directorate of Roads and Bridges, is overseeing the project.
