KRG Expands Educational Infrastructure with New Schools, Universities, and Renovations
As part of its strategic vision to build an informed and progressive society, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has made education a central priority, achieving major progress in strengthening the region’s educational infrastructure over the past five years.
During this period, the government constructed 225 new schools, addressing population growth and reducing classroom overcrowding. In parallel, 2,114 schools were renovated and 629 new classrooms added, creating a better learning environment for hundreds of thousands of students across the Kurdistan Region.
Higher education has also expanded significantly. The establishment of two new universities, along with 21 specialised colleges and institutes and dozens of new academic departments, reflects the government’s commitment to aligning academic programmes with labour market needs.
Beyond infrastructure, the KRG has focused on human capital, successfully reintegrating 33,271 male and female students who had previously left their studies.
These initiatives form part of the government’s broader plan to modernise the education sector and enhance its quality, reinforcing education’s vital role in shaping a prosperous future for the Kurdistan Region.
