KRG’s Qushtapa Water Project Set to Finish Ahead of Schedule

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Qushtapa Water Project, launched in 2024 under the direction of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, is approaching completion ahead of schedule. Initially planned for two years, the project is now 81% complete.

With a total cost of IQD 222 billion, the project will provide drinking water and irrigation for Qushtapa and Bestana districts, as well as 72 villages in Erbil Governorate, significantly improving water access for local communities.

Key milestones achieved include the full completion of the intake facility in Qushtapa, installation of 37 km of 800 mm pipeline to the district, and 263 km of pipelines ranging from 90 mm to 500 mm connecting surrounding villages. In addition, a 37 km, 33 kV power line has been completed and is fully operational.

Once fully commissioned, the project will supply 3,000 cubic metres of clean water per hour, in line with international standards, benefiting approximately 240,000 residents.
