Major Infrastructure Progress on Korre–Shaqlawa–Qandil Dual Carriageway and Tunnel Project
As part of the Ninth Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) focus on the road and reconstruction sector, work continues on the strategic Korre-Shaqlawa-Qandil road project. This initiative is considered one of the most significant infrastructure developments in the region and is being implemented by local labour in accordance with high international quality standards.
The road extends for 10 kilometres and is being constructed as a dual carriageway. To improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, three modern interchanges are being built along the route.
A core component of the project is the construction of the Mirawa and Mawaran tunnels, which are being developed using modern engineering techniques consistent with international standards. Currently, one side of the road has been fully completed, while intensive work continues on the second carriageway.
The project has an allocated budget of IQD 90 billion. Due to the rapid pace of implementation and strict adherence to project timelines, completion is expected ahead of schedule, providing important benefits for both residents and tourists.
Executing this project with local expertise underscores the KRG's commitment to strengthening domestic capacity and supporting local companies in strategic infrastructure projects.
