Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani receives new French Consul-General

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today received French Consul-General, Olivier Decottignies, in Erbil.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani congratulated Consul-General Decottignies on his new role as French representative in the Kurdistan Region.

Emphasising the historic bond between the two nations, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani expressed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s appreciation for the French Government’s continued support and interest in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani updated the Consul-General on continuing discussions between Erbil and Baghdad, as part of efforts to secure a stable relationship that recognises the rights of the Kurdistan Region under the constitution.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani praised France’s efforts to help facilitate constructive dialogue between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq.

The Consul-General reaffirmed the French President’s commitment to supporting a positive relationship between Erbil and Baghdad to promote peace and stability in the region.

The two officials also discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral relations between France and the Kurdistan Region.
