Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani discusses regional tensions with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today received a Russian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov.

The two sides spoke of the historic relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the Russian Federation and expressed their commitment to further expand bilateral ties. They also discussed the latest developments in Iraq and Syria, and the need to prevent the re-emergence of terrorism.

The Deputy Prime Minister called for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis and the protection of Kurdish rights in the country. He reiterated that the Kurdistan Region will continue to be an advocate for peace and stability in the Middle East and engage constructively with regional partners.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in Iraq. He extended his call to Iraqi parties and the international community to cooperate and help preserve the fragile gains achieved in the last few years.
