Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani receives US Consul-General in Erbil Steven Fagin

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today received the US Consul-General in Erbil, Steven Fagin.

Discussing the KRG’s ambitious reform efforts, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani outlined measures taken to improve and standardise the banking system in the Kurdistan Region, the benefits of which will be felt across the entire financial sector. He called for support from the US and the international community as the Kurdistan Region embarks upon this journey of reform. Deputy Prime Minister Talabani also reiterated that the strengthening of bilateral ties with the US remains a priority for the KRG.

The two officials discussed recent developments in Iraq and how to further strengthen ties between Erbil and Baghdad. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the KRG’s commitment to developing a stable and equal partnership with the federal government of Iraq, in order to uphold the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.
