Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani chairs cabinet meeting on reforms, electricity production

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today chaired a cabinet meeting on the implementation of the Reform Law, a flagship initiative of the government, as well as the latest measures taken to contain the outbreak of coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani stressed the need to continue the ongoing reform process, including diversifying the economy, as one of the government’s top priorities. The cabinet requested Minister of Finance and Economy, Awat Janab Noori, to present a detailed report next week on the progress achieved thus far in terms of the implementation of the Reform Law.

Focusing on improving the delivery of electricity, Minister of Electricity Kamal Mohammed Salih Khalil updated the cabinet on ongoing efforts to increase the production and distribution of power, and the collection of relevant taxes by the ministry. The cabinet also requested Minister Khalil prepare a detailed report regarding plans to develop the sector as part of wider public service reforms.

The cabinet also agreed to send a government delegation to Baghdad for talks on the current situation in Iraq, including the outbreak of coronavirus, and further coordinate efforts to maintain the peace and security of the country as a whole.
