Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani receives Australian Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today received the Australian Ambassador to Iraq, Joanne Loundes, to discuss the latest domestic and regional developments.

The Deputy Prime Minister outlined the KRG’s extensive and comprehensive response to the outbreak of coronavirus in the region. He emphasised that the government would draw on its previous crisis management experience and that the Kurdistan Region would remain resilient.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Ambassador also discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and efforts by the KRG to strengthen ties between Erbil and Baghdad. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the KRG supports the formation of a new and inclusive federal government that prioritises reform and improving services. He added that a new federal government must respect the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.

The Deputy Prime Minister told the Australian Ambassador that the KRG is committed to its ambitious reform and modernization agenda. Both sides agreed on the need to further strengthen bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Australia, particularly in the agriculture and industrial sectors.
