Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani meets with British Consul General in Erbil

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today met with British Consul General in Erbil, James Thornton, to discuss developments with the federal budget bill and relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq.

During the meeting, the British Consul General praised the role of the Kurdistan Region and the regional government’s negotiating delegation in their efforts to generate consensus for the 2021 Iraqi budget bill, and expressed his hope that Erbil-Baghdad relations would now improve.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the Kurdistan Regional Government will build on the success of this experience and that it should serve as a foundation on which to resolve other outstanding disagreements between the two governments through dialogue and mutual respect. He also stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government is moving forward with the Kurdistan Region’s 2021 budget bill, to support its reform efforts and the implementation of economic projects to diversify sources of public revenue.

The British Consul General recognised Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani’s role in pushing forward the reform agenda and helping the government become more efficient in delivering public services.
