Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani meets with US Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today met with US Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller, and US Consul General in Erbil, Rob Waller, to discuss ongoing strategic dialogue between the US and Iraq.

Both sides agreed on the importance of ongoing conversations between Baghdad and Washington, highlighting that both countries share a vested interest in having a comprehensive and mutually reinforcing relationship in the areas of security, military cooperation, culture, and academia.

The meaningful participation of the Kurdistan Region in the Iraqi-American dialogue was also emphasized, recognising the region as a constitutionally-enshrined entity within the framework of the Federal State of Iraq.

The US Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s support for ongoing negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad to reach a sustainable agreement on other pending issues, building on the success of the 2021 Federal Budget bill.

The US officials praised the role of the delegation and the Kurdistan Regional Government for their perseverance in dealing with Baghdad and called for this approach going forward to peacefully resolve outstanding disputes.
