KRG DPM Qubad Talabani meets with British Consul General

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today met with British Consul General to Erbil, James Thornton, to discuss bilateral relations and regional affairs and wish the outgoing diplomat success in his new role.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani thanked Thornton for his support to the Kurdistan Region, and for the UK’s continuous assistance with the unification of the Peshmerga forces. He noted that the KRG is looking forward to deepening its ties with the British Government, and collaborating closer with its reform agenda and decentralisation efforts.

The Deputy Prime Minister also stated that the UK will continue to be a key ally for Erbil in bringing greater political stability to the region, notably through its support for the implementation of the Federal Budget Law and for a constructive dialogue on outstanding issues between the KRG and the Federal Government of Iraq.

Consul General Thornton expressed gratitude for the KRG’s readiness to work with the British Consulate on shared priorities and thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for his support.
