Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani meets with German Consul

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today met with German Consul General in Erbil, Klemens Semtner, to discuss relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government of Iraq, the upcoming Iraqi elections, and other regional developments.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that relations between Erbil and Baghdad have improved thanks to an ongoing dialogue between the two governments, especially following the passage of the 2021 Federal Budget Bill. He also announced that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s negotiating team will travel to the Iraqi capital next week to discuss the implementation of the budget law, its different provisions, and the rights and duties of both governments.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani also raised concerns about the upcoming Iraqi election, and urged the international community to help create conditions for free, fair, and credible elections. Both sides discussed the latest political and security regional developments, and agreed the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Federal Government of Iraq, and political parties should work together with international allies to stabilise the situation in the region.
