Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani meets with British Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today met with a British delegation headed by Mark Bryson-Richardson, the British Ambassador to Iraq, to discuss post-election reforms and potential areas of greater cooperation between the UK and the Kurdistan Region.

Both side agreed that preserving peace and stability in Iraq requires joint efforts from all parties in Iraq and support from the international community for the formation an inclusive and representative government.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the Kurdistan Regional Government will continue to implement its reforms, including changes to its taxation system, and welcomes a more collaborative approach from the new Iraqi government to help with the country’s reconstruction and economic recovery. He also noted the Kurdistan Regional Government welcomes the UK playing a greater role in the reform process.

The British Delegation affirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting security forces in Iraq, including the Peshmerga Forces, in the fight against the resurgence of ISIS in the region.
