Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani marks opening of flour factory in Sulaymaniyah

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today attended the opening ceremony of a flour factory in Sulaymaniyah, along with the Minister of Finance and Economy and the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources.

The flour factory is part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Wheat Marketing Project, which was launched earlier this year. The infrastructure project was expedited by Qaiwan group and completed in four months. It now provides a daily production capacity of five hundred tons of high-quality flour and will create 400 employment opportunities, with the potential to directly and indirectly generate an additional 5,000 jobs.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that working with the private sector will allow the government to quickly address rising flour prices and provide high-quality, locally-sourced products.

He noted that over the past two years, the Kurdistan Regional Government has issued licenses for 860 projects of all sizes, estimated to provide over 48,000 employment opportunities across the Kurdistan Region. Working with the private sector, the government will continue to implement reforms to grow the economy in a sustainable way, strengthen governance, and improve the delivery of public services.
