Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani receives British delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Tuesday met with the new British Consul General to Erbil, David Hunt, and Deputy Consul General to Erbil, Jamie Hamill, to discuss bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UK.

Deputy Prime Minister Talabani highlighted opportunities for renewed cooperation between the Region and the UK, notably on the reform process and the improvement of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s public service delivery.

Both sides agreed to prioritize elevating bilateral ties to coordinate on issues of shared interests, including ensuring the upcoming Iraqi elections are held in a timely and transparent manner and the ongoing fight against terrorism.

The delegation reaffirmed the British government’s commitment to the Kurdistan Region and readiness to send election observers to protect the integrity of the Iraqi electoral process.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the Kurdistan Regional Government is open to expanding and developing new cultural and economic exchanges with the UK, as well as broadening operations outside of the urban centers.
