Deputy PM Qubad Talabani meets with Greek Minister of Development and Investment

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani held a bilateral meeting on Friday with the Greek Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis. Together, they discussed strengthening ties between the two nations, notably in the investment, tourism, and the food industry sectors.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the cultural similarities between the Kurdistan Region and Greece, and pointed to the potential for collaboration. He stressed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s readiness to assist Greek companies in investing in tourism, agriculture, and food industry in the Kurdistan Region.

The two officials also discussed establishing direct flights between Erbil and Athens, and the Greek Minister noted the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs is prepared to cooperate with airlines on the issuance of visas to citizens of the Kurdistan Region.

Minister Georgiadis added that he was struck by the Kurdistan Region’s stunning natural landscape during a previous visit, calling it the “Switzerland of the region,” a testament to its potential as a prime tourist destination in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani agreed to keep a close working relationship with the minister as the ninth Cabinet works to diversify and grow the Kurdistan Region’s economy, notably in the fields of agriculture, tourism, and industry, as well as modernize the local banking system to facilitate business.

The Deputy Prime Minister was supported by his delegation, which includes the President of the Diwan of Council of Ministers, Umed Sabah, the Chairman of General Board of Tourism, Amal Jalal, and the Deputy head of the Department of Foreign Relations, Daban Shadala.
