Deputy PM Talabani meets with Chinese Ambassador to Iraq
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Monday met with the new Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Cui Wei, and the Chinese Consul General in Erbil to discuss the political situation in Iraq and the bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and China.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need for a swift resolution to the political deadlock in Baghdad as the current situation will continue to foster unrest in the country. He noted that the delivery of public services should remain a priority for all parties involved, including those in the Kurdistan Region.
Deputy Prime Minister Talabani added that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is committed to further progressing with its reform agenda to meet the needs and demands of the people despite delays as a result of the global pandemic and slowed economic growth. Discussing ways China can provide more support, he urged the Chinese envoy to encourage companies and investors to consider doing business in the Kurdistan Region, notably in the industrial and agricultural sectors.
Both sides expressed willingness to strengthen ties between the Kurdistan Region and China. Deputy Prime Minister Talabani noted the Kurdistan Regional Government is prepared to facilitate any economic and cultural exchanges, including between Chinese and Kurdish universities.
