Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani meets with Australian Ambassador to Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today met with Australian Ambassador to Iraq, Paula Ganly, to discuss climate change and opportunities for collaboration in tackling environmental crises in the country.

Both sides agreed environmental issues are a growing concern in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region which require innovative solutions and adequate planning to protect the environment, most notably water security.

The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Australia’s offer to send specialists to assist the Kurdistan Regional Government in establishing and implementing environmental strategies, including how to manage droughts. He also encouraged Australian companies to travel to the Kurdistan Region and share their expertise on environmentally-conscious approaches.
