Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets the US Special Representative for Syria Engagement and Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received a US delegation headed by James Jeffrey, the United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement and the Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

They discussed the latest developments in the Middle East. Prime Minister Barzani thanked Ambassador Jeffrey for recognising the Kurdistan Region’s sacrifice in the struggle against the so-called Islamic State and their commitment to the lasting defeat of the terrorist group.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked the US for its support and stressed the need for the international community to maintain support for the Peshmerga forces, who continue to tackle the terrorist threat in defence of the Kurdistani and Iraqi peoples.

Prime Minister Barzani warned that instability and insecurity in Iraq risks undoing the progress achieved over the past year and threatens the hard-earned peace. He affirmed that continued cooperation between the Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces, with the support of the international community, is key to preserving security.
