Prime Minister Barzani Receives U.S. Military Delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received a U.S. military delegation led by the Chief of the U.S. Office of Security Cooperation – Iraq (OSC-I), Brigadier General Gregory Kreuder.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and delegation reviewed latest security developments across Iraq.

Discussing current security issues, the Prime Minister stressed that Islamic State remains a threat to the region and that the support of the U.S.-led coalition remains crucial to preventing the group from reorganising.

Both parties emphasised the importance of establishing closer coordination between Peshmerga and Iraqi Army in the disputed territories. Prime Minister Barzani noted that security cooperation was a key focus of negotiations with Baghdad and formed part of discussions at the first meeting of the High-Level Joint Committee of the Federal Government of Iraq and the KRG.

The delegation reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting the new government’s plans to reform, integrate and modernise the Peshmerga forces.

Concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister spoke of the importance of countering regional terror threats by addressing the root causes of extremism. In this regard, the Prime Minister noted that the Kurdistan government will continue to promote the principles of equality, justice and tolerance.
