Prime Minister receives Sri Lankan Ambassador to Iraq; closer trade ties discussed
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Iraq, Niranjan Asoka Ranasinghe.
During the meeting, the Ambassador congratulated Prime Minister Barzani following the recent inauguration and wished success to the government.
The Prime Minister and Ambassador discussed the importance of building on the bilateral relationship through new partnerships. The Ambassador stated that there was strong interest from Sri Lankan businesses looking to invest in the region. In this regard, he noted that an exhibition of Sri Lankan products will be held in Erbil later this year.
In response, the Prime Minister welcomed further Sri Lankan investment in the region’s economy, stating that creating the right conditions and regulations to facilitate foreign investment was a key priority for this government. He also emphasised plans to diversify the economy through investment in key sectors including agriculture, tourism and industry.
