Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives US delegation, discusses regional security

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani today received a US delegation headed by Robert Karem, National Security Advisor to the Office of the Senate Majority Leader. Prime Minister Barzani welcomed Mr. Karem and the US Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller, as he highlighted the two nations’ ongoing and important partnership in the region.

As they discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the Middle East, Prime Minister Barzani affirmed the Peshmerga forces’ commitment to the stability of the region and the lasting defeat of the so-called Islamic State. He thanked the United States and Global Coalition for their continued support of the Kurdistan Region in this regard.

Prime Minister Barzani stressed that successful and meaningful cooperation between Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces, with the ongoing support of the Global Coalition, is crucial to preventing the re-emergence of violence and ensuring the security of all Iraqis, including the Kurdistani peoples.

Prime Minister Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region remains a key partner of the United States and that it will continue to engage constructively and peacefully with all regional partners.
