Prime Minister Masrour Barzani receives US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received John Rood, the US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, who is currently conducting a tour of the region.

As they discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the Middle East, Prime Minister Barzani affirmed the Peshmerga forces’ commitment to regional stability and the lasting defeat of ISIS.

Recognising the strong and cooperative relationship shared by the two nations, Prime Minister Barzani emphasised its importance in the fight against regional security threats. He also highlighted the cooperation between the Peshmerga and Iraqi security forces in preventing the re-emergence of terrorist organisations and ensuring the security of all peoples in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani was joined by the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, Shoresh Ismael, and Minister of Interior, Rebar Ahmed, in expressing gratitude for the US’ continued support to the Kurdistan Region, highlighted most recently by US Vice-President Mike Pence’s official visit to Erbil.
