Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visits women’s centre on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today visited a women’s centre which offers shelter and support to victims of violence and domestic abuse.

Prime Minister Barzani joined women and groups across the country in taking a stand against gender-based violence and affirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to protecting and empowering women.

Accompanied by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Kwestan Mohammed, the Prime Minister sat with victims and activists as they shared their experiences and emphasised the need for the eradication of violence against women and girls.

Highlighting ongoing efforts by the new government, Prime Minister Barzani stated the Kurdistan Region should continue to strive for a brighter future free of all violence. He lent his voice to calling for greater support of women’s rights and to ensuring their safety.

Prime Minister Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government’s role as an ally and partner in the fight to protect, enable, and empower women.
