Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Receives US delegation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today met with a US delegation headed by Senator Tammy Baldwin.

Prime Minister Barzani informed the US delegation of current and ongoing security threats, particularly posed by Islamic State sleeper cells in the country. Both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between security forces in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to effectively combat terrorist threats.

Prime Minister Barzani emphasised the need to prioritise stability in Iraq to serve the best interests of its peoples and updated the delegation on ongoing constructive dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad.

He affirmed that the Kurdistan Regional Government is committed to peaceful discussions with the Federal Government of Iraq, based on a mutual understanding that recognises the rights of the Kurdistan Region under the constitution.

Prime Minister Barzani also outlined ways in which the US can support the Kurdistan Regional Government in aiding the voluntary return of displaced persons to their hometowns.
